Cooking for the Masses

Once upon a time, Tony Bourdain (you know, the famous chef, writer, and TV personality) came to eat in our little mom and pop place.  We, at Mooncake, are not usually star struck by celebrities but something about the idea of having Tony Bourdain socializing with the staff, eating our food, and becoming somewhat of a regular was really sensational.  I’m embarrassed to say, it kinda validates our restaurant’s coolness.  One day, I finally mustered the courage to ask Tony to pose for a photo for our brand new wall of fame.  We chit chatted and I started to express my admiration and my respect.  Well, to cut to the chase, it turns out Tony Bourdain was not “THE Tony Bourdain” but in fact a Tony Bourdain Look-A-Like.  Dammit.  Can you imagine the extreme embarrassment?  I wanted to crawl into my convection oven and close the door.  But the Buddha gods were shining on me that day.  And guess what?  It turns out, the Tony Bourdain Look-A-Like was, in fact, in the food industry.  However, he was not a chef, nor a writer, nor an actor on TV.  Look-A-Like was the owner of one the biggest gourmet food chains in NYC.  We struck a great business relationship and the rest is really history.  Pretty soon, other gourmet food stores, hotels, and supermarkets came calling for our Asian goodness.  And needless to say, I canceled the idea of having any kind of wall of fame.
